I remember being in high school when I realized I love anthems, I think it was a punk band called gob, and a song called soda, I realized I am a huge sucker for anthems. Portishead became an instant favorite of mine when "Dummy" magically appeared in the early 90s, but I became a rabid fan based on what came next-- the most amazing B-Sides and remixes known to man.
Their 2nd CD was actually a bit of a mis-step to my ears. Some of those tunes found new life on the live CD, but it was still a bit inferior in my ears to the original flavor.
