This CD is really good. There are some great songs on it, and only a few 'ehh' tracks. "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us" is the best track on the album, sounding oddly Russian, yet involving a banjo and fiddle in its soundscape. That song and "Please Read the Letter" are both genius songs, and the latter is even a Grammy winner (Best Record) and a Robert Plant original. There is a lot of emotion in that song, and at times, feels like a Zeppelin song, which is always nice. "Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)" and "Rich Woman" both received Best Pop Collaboration Grammy Awards., and for good reason. They are very good pop songs.

It's weird how Robert Plant and Alison Krauss fit. Its almost inexplicable. It's awesome, great even, regardless of how odd the pairing is. I'm glad Robert Plant, like Bob Dylan, is still relevant today in music. It's heartwarming and reminds you that great music lives on.

  I admittedly did not appreciate this album when I first heard it back in 2007. But upon approaching it again and again and again, I finally realized what all the hype was about! I cant say I endorse it winning all 5 Grammys it was nominated for, but I will say that the tracks are just absolutely gorgeous! Kudos to T-Bone Burnett for his awesome, atmospheric and organic production. Of course, as a duets album this would all fail if the two performers didn't have chemistry, or even sound good t... From the swampy "Rich Woman" to the rollicking "Gone Gone Gone", the head Zeppelin and the Grammy-darling spin gorgeous melodies and beautiful harmonies through-out, making this a compelling album.   What happened? How is it that Alison Krauss, famous for her crooning bluegrass vocals, and Robert Plant, rocker-extraordinaire, have created something in Raising Sand that is perfectly synced? One of my absolute favorite albums of 2007.
